Sturry CE Primary School wins Gold School Games Mark 1

Sports Leaders at Sturry CE Primary School

We are delighted to announce that Sturry Church of England Primary School has achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. We are proud to see Sturry Primary recognised for its outstanding success.

Sporting achievements at Sturry CE Primary School this year include:

  • Implementing a structured plan for 60 active minutes daily.
  • Conducting gender-inclusive extracurricular activities.
  • Successful participation in various sports, including Cricket, Dance, Multi-Skills, Rounders, Tennis, Athletics, Football and Swimming.

With a significant number of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of the dedication shown by Sturry Primary’s pupils to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders, and officials who made the competitions possible.

As part of the application, Sturry fulfilled criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce, and clubs, demonstrating the hard work and commitment of everyone involved.

A special thanks to:

  • Amie Tonkiss, the dedicated PE Lead at Sturry, for her exceptional leadership and coordination.
  • Gemma Edwards, the School Games Organiser, for her invaluable support and guidance.
  • All the staff, students, and parents at Sturry CE Primary School for their continued commitment and enthusiasm towards school sports.

We look forward to seeing Sturry Church of England Primary School continue to excel and inspire in the coming years and to applying for the School Games Mark once again in 2025.

The Stour Academy Trust remains committed to supporting all our schools in achieving excellence in physical education and sport.
