Richmond Academy in Sheerness welcomed visitors into the school on Wednesday 17th November to attend an open morning in celebration of its recent Microsoft Showcase Award.
The Mayor of Swale, Councillor Simon Clark presents the school with a certificate of recognition.
A prestigious award from software giant Microsoft, there are currently under 100 schools in the United Kingdom that have achieved Showcase School status.
The award is made even more significant with the fact that Richmond Academy is ranked as the 8th most deprived school in Kent. With a substantial investment of over £300,000 in recent years on upgrading buildings, premises and the school environment, the respected accolade of becoming a Microsoft Showcase School is the latest landmark in the school’s transformation.
Visitors were welcomed into the school hall, where children from Richmond and staff from across The Stour Academy Trust were on hand to demonstrate and answer questions about the technology and teaching techniques that are used on a daily basis by children and staff at the school.
The Mayor of Swale, Councillor Simon Clark, was in attendance and presented the school with a certificate of recognition from Microsoft Worldwide Education.
Parents and visitors were able to tour the school to see the children following The Stour Academy Trust’s Vision for Education in practice. The vision for education focuses on giving children the necessary skills to allow them to thrive in our modern, 21st century world. The school’s focus on collaboration, inclusivity, the purposeful integration of technology and personlised learning was clear to see as children welcomed the visitors into their classrooms.
I am immensely proud of Richmond and the journey we have been on; to be awarded this status in such a short time represents the significant changes we have made as a team to ensure our children are served fully for the 21st Century. I am determined that our community will continue to flourish; our children are a credit to us all and have embraced our vision for education fully.
Helen Evemy, Headteacher of Richmond Academy
Such a positive and proactive school, it was nice to see the kids during their activities and great to see the tech in action!
