The first primary school at Chilmington Green opened its doors to pupils for the first time on its brand-new school site on Monday. Having been at a temporary site on Jemmett Road since 2018, the school enters the state-of-the-art building as a well-established primary with over 150 pupils and 29 members of staff.
Initially, the school is operating as a one form entry school for children of primary age (4–11-year-olds), with the exception of Reception year, which allows two forms of entry, allowing for 60 Year R pupils to join the school each year. The newly opened school nursery now inhabits a dedicated space for up to 26 nursery aged children (2, 3 and 4-year-olds) per session and also includes a Specialist Resource Provision for up to 14 pupils who have an Education Health Care Plan for Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
At full capacity, the school has sufficient space to offer 420 primary school places to children in the local area and will have 14 classrooms, a library, nurture room, multi-use games area plus a large hall and sports field available to hire by the community.
Lisa Flack Headteacher:
Firstly, we would like to thank our parents who have been incredibly supportive and understanding of the school during this transitional process. The building looks incredible and provides our children with a fantastic environment for their learning. Our staff have worked incredibly hard over the half-term in the moving process and the classrooms look amazing. We are delighted that the enthusiasm from children, parents and staff resulted in a successful first day in our amazing new school. We are so pleased to have moved into our permanent home, where the next chapter of Chilmington Green Primary School can begin.
The school is holding an open evening for parents with children due to start school in September 2022 on Tuesday 9th November at 5pm. Parents will be able to meet school staff and have a tour of the brand new site. More information can be found at www.chilmingtongreen.kent.sch.uk
